Shirley Warren, Church Secretary

Shirley Warren is no stranger to the folks in and around Windsor, Suffolk and Portsmouth. She has served as Church Secretary and Administrative Assistant at Highland Baptist Church for three years and Biltmore Baptist Church in Portsmouth for thirty-five years prior to coming to us at Windsor Baptist in early 2019.

She is a musician, playing both the piano and organ. She served WBC as the organist for three years back in the early part of the 2000's, Alliance Church in Portsmouth  and was Assistant Organist at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. She also fills in on both the piano and the organ here at WBC  when needed.

Shirley was married to the late Joseph T. (Tommy) Warren. She has two daughters, Jennifer Neal and Rebecca Deily and five grandchildren, Philip, Travis, Caleb, Abby and Leah. She is very active in a local service organization plus a ladies missionary society and enjoys gardening, reading and playing music.

Janice Corson, Music Director

Janice is the wife of Pastor John and a native of Chesapeake, VA. She grew up in a house of all boys in the Deep Creek section of the city and graduated from Deep Creek High.

Janice's love for music goes back to her teens when she enrolled at Tidewater Community College and began studying music theory and voice. She has sung in church choirs and with the Dick Barnes Chorus for over thirty years. She became Music Director at WBC in September, 2011.

An avid gardener, Janice is a certified Master Gardener through the Virginia Cooperative Extension at Virginia Tech. She also works on our landscaping and flower teams here at WBC. She is employed in the Emergency Room Admissions Dept. at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center where she works as a patient registrar.

Irie Gwaltney Palagyi, Pianist

Irie is a lifelong resident of Smithfield, VA and a graduate of Isle of Wight Academy, Paul D. Camp Community College and holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Averett University. She has served as our Pianist since January, 2012. She started taking piano lessons at age six and has been playing keyboard instruments ever since, including the organ although it is not her favorite instrument.

Irie is employed by Huntington Ingalls - Newport News Shipbuilding and has worked there for 12 years. While working there she met and later married her husband, Dave Palagyi who soon joined Windsor Baptist Church. Irie's love for music made such an impact on Dave that he quickly joined our choir and has recently branched out as a soloist.

Irie is the mother of three beautiful daughters: Amy (Greg),Christy (Jamie) and  Heather (Alex) She also has seven grandchildren: Haley, Lucas, Brooke, Tyler, Mason, Liliana and  Charlotte with another grandchild on the way.

Gloria Gay, Organist In Memorium, went to be with her Lord 7/22/21

Gloria came to Windsor Baptist in November, 2013 and is a God-send. We had been without an organist for almost three years and was about to have some thoughts about removing our organ from the worship center. Gloria has over forty years of experience playing piano and organ in several churches in the Tidewater Area.

An avid reader, Gloria peruses devotional books, Bible lesson materials, Bible study books and, of course, the Bible. She leads our Prayer Warriors, one of our many teams under the Discipleship Ministry and teaches the Monday Evening Ladies Bible Study.

Gloria passed away and went to be with her Lord on July 22, 2021. She leaves behind her husband, Joe and her son Jeff and two grandchildren.

Howard Mays, Church Custodian

Howard MaysHoward has been a lifelong resident of the Tidewater area and a member of Windsor Baptist since 2012. He worked for many years as an auto mechanic for Harvey's Service Center and Tidewater Tire. Since January, 2014, he has served WBC as our custodian.

Howard was recently ordained a Deacon with WBC and leads the Service Ministry of the church. He is married to Kathy and they have two children: Christy and David; and one granddaughter, Jocelyn. Kathy works as a nurse aid at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Health Care in Suffolk.

When asked how Howard does as the church's custodian, one of our long-serving former custodians (a real neat-nick) says that he does "an excellent job and keeps the church spotless." Howard will tell you that his work is for the Lord Who enables him to do a good deed.
